Conference Program: „Resource Efficiency – Challenges and Opportunities”

Anuga FoodTec uses the edition of 2018 to include a special focus on the topic of Resource Efficiency.
Internationally acknowledged experts will explore different aspects of this theme in a half-day Conference. Features will include effective and efficient structuring of the value-adding process by taking full advantage of materials, energy, personnel and capital, and making optimal use of resources – for greater sustainability, less environmental pollution, and to achieve savings in many different areas of the company.
At the conference, Professor Michael Braungart will introduce his “Cradle to Cradle” design concept.
Saving energy and making production processes more efficient and less harmful, is not the only solution for Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart. He wants to develop products and production processes, which eliminate waste. The products he develops must be completely safe for both people and the environment. Additionally, people and the products they manufacture and use will be useful for other processes. These products work in close loops, in nutrient circles, so that there won’t be any waste at all, but only useful resources. This concept of eco-effectiveness presents a positive agenda based on maximizing the ability of industry to truly support the natural and human world around it.
Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart, Scientific CEO of EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH, scientific manager of Hamburger Umweltinstitut (HUI), Hamburg, Germany; scientific director of McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Sauer will sustain a presentation on “Resource Efficiency and Digitalization – Insights from latest Research”.
Many firms link digitalization with targets such as further development of production technology, increased production efficiency and innovations for safeguarding the future. But just how far-reaching and widespread is the effect of digitalization in terms of resource efficiency of companies? Which potentials can be exploited? Which approaches exist for digitalization? – These are the themes approached in the presentation.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Sauer, Director, Institute for Energy Efficiency in Production EEP, University of Stuttgart; Head of Development Group Efficiency Systems, Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA, Stuttgart, Germany
“How smart is Smart Packaging: a science perspective” is the title ofProf. Pierre Pienaar’s presentation.
Smart packaging offers an additional function with integrated technologies. These are based on chemicals or electronics and are used for market strategy or are consumer oriented. In this way, data carriers provide information about the origin or ingredients of a product or special indicators show the degree of freshness or temperature of the goods. Smart packaging also enables automated logistics processes in the internet of things. Smart chips allow individual identification and traceability of single packages. Using this, the stream of goods can be controlled from the fully automated warehouse to the shelf. The use of smart RFID markings by trading companies for parts of their goods logistics is on the rise.
Prof. Pierre Pienaar, President of the World Packaging Organisation, Australia.
Next, Prof. Dr. ir. Ruud Huirne, will talk about “Food supply of the future”. The world population will increase by 2 billion people the coming decades, many of whom will have twice as much income to spend, and the demand for food will increase by at least 60%. Four global challenges emerge, offering enormous opportunities for agri and food companies, i.e. increasing the availability of food, improving the access to food, promoting balanced and healthy nutrition, and increasing economic stability
Prof. Dr. ir. Ruud Huirne, Director Food & Agri Nederland, Rabobank, Utrecht, The Netherlands.
The expert forums of Anuga FoodTec
Two further focuses of the export forums are “Themes, Trends, Technologies – that are moving the food industry” as well as “Food Ingredients”.
Anuga FoodTec 2018 exhibitors will present their companies, their product range and/or innovations to a broad trade audience in the Speakers Corner. A different, exciting theme is on the agenda every 30 minutes throughout the entire duration of the trade fair.
Furthermore, the trade visitors can look forward to special events like the ‘Robotik-Pack-Line’ or a special exhibition on the theme of ‘Packaging Design – get inspired’. The numerous live presentations of the exhibitors round off the Anuga FoodTec experience perfectly. Those, who would like the opportunity to see a certain machine in operation can inform themselves online about the demonstration times of the machines shortly before the fair begins. Interested parties can find the respective categories and the demonstration times of the machines via the event search and the option “Extended Search”/”Themes”.
The guided tours offer a compact and informative overview of specific themes of the food and beverage industry. In the course of the tours, selected exhibitors will present and explain their products, machines and functions live on-site. Interested visitors can take part in different tours daily. The themes of the guided tours include among others robotics, Industry 4.0, more flexibility in the filling and packing technology, meat and dairy technologies as well as innovative packing materials.
