The UK Celebrates National Chip Week
Did you know that if you laid all the chips eaten in Great Britain each year end to end, they would take you around Silverstone Grand Prix circuit over 1.5 million times?… that’s the equivalent of more than 26,000 British Grand Prix’s!
The 18th annual National Chip Week, organised by the Potato Council, saw more than 800 chip shops take part last year so there’s sure to be something happening near you in February 2009. During the week itself we will be revealing the winners of Great Britain’s Perfect Portion awards, and Keith Chegwin will be on tour to find his own perfect portion.
Visit www.lovechips.co.uk to find out which chip shops in your area will be taking part. From 12 January 2009 readers can nominate their perfect portion online – whether it’s their local chippie, home cooked oven fries, or chunky chips in their local pub, we want to hear what makes their perfect portion.
TV chef, Paul Bloxham, chef patron at the award-winning Tilbury pub in Hertfordshire, is passionate about the chip and an advocate of National Chip Week 2009. “There are so many ways we can all enjoy chips, from home-made traditional chips, to oven chips spiced with a kick. Chips are always a favourite choice at my restaurant and it doesn’t surprise me that we all love them so much – fluffy on the inside, crisp and golden on the outside and with all the goodness of potatoes!”
