Michigan Potatoes: The Majority of the 2025 Chip Potato Harvest Contracting is Complete

The Michigan Potatoes report from February 26 states that the chip potato market is still calm. Although some sources indicate that demand has weakened in recent weeks, spud movement has remained consistent. In Florida, Georgia, Texas, Arizona, and California, planting and crop development are proceeding according to plan. For the 2025 chip potato harvest, the majority of contracting is complete. Contract volumes are steady or slightly down, while prices are up 1% to 2%.
“U.S. packers shipped 84,150 tons of table potatoes during the week ending February 22, 2025 (16-22 Feb). That is up from 78,450 tons shipped a year earlier. Michigan packers shipped 1,386.5 tons during the week ending February 22. That is down from 3,203.3 tons shipped during the same week in 2024. Last week’s reported Michigan shipments were 100% russets,” the report reveals.
USDA reports that Michigan packers are selling size A russets in 10-pound bags for USD10-USD11 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from last week. They are selling size A russets in 5-pound bags for USD11-USD12 per 50-pound bale, also unchanged. Wisconsin packers are selling size A russet potatoes in 10-pound bags for USD9-USD10.50 per 50-pound bale, unchanged from a week ago. They are selling russet 40-70 count cartons for mostly USD12-USD13 per 50-pound box, also unchanged. The weighted average shipping point price for Idaho Russet Norkotahs is USD16.49 per cwt, unchanged from the previous week.
“Red River Valley packers are selling size A yellow potatoes in 907 kg tote bags for mostly USD19-USD21 per cwt, up from USD18-USD20 per cwt a week ago. They are selling yellow creamers for mostly USD26-USD28 per 50-pound carton, unchanged from last week. Florida packers sell 50-pound cartons of size A yellow potatoes for USD23.70-USD26.25 per box. They are selling yellow creamers in 50-pound cartons for USD40.25-USD40.95 per box,” the NAPMN report concluded.
