New Zealand Processed Potato Exports Gain 6.7% YTD

New Zealand’s processed potato exports gained momentum through July, with year-to-date (January–July) shipments reaching 33,435 tonnes, up 6.7% from 31,334 tonnes a year earlier. Export value increased faster than volume, rising 9.8% to NZ$62,068,370 FOB from NZ$56,550,245, implying an average realised price of about NZ$1,856 per tonne.
Australia remained the top destination at 10,484 tonnes (around 31% of total exports), followed by the Philippines with 6,340 tonnes (19%), Thailand with 4,965 tonnes (15%), and Indonesia with 3,841 tonnes (11%). Beyond the top four, Malaysia accounted for 3,103 tonnes, Taiwan for 1,443 tonnes, Papua New Guinea for 674 tonnes, and Japan for 430 tonnes.
The trade balance within Asia showed sharp contrasts. Compared with the same period in 2024, shipments to the Philippines rose by 34.5% (6,340 tonnes versus 4,713 tonnes), while exports to Indonesia advanced 41.3% (3,841 versus 2,719). In contrast, volumes to Thailand fell by 23.0% (4,965 versus 6,451), while consignments to Australia remained broadly stable at 10,484 tonnes (down slightly from 10,927).
For the month of July 2025, exports totalled 4,060 tonnes valued at NZ$7,686,486 FOB. Year-to-date totals are ahead of 2023 and 2024 but remain below the 2022 comparator, when 37,994 tonnes were shipped in the same period.
