Potato Processors Pay Premiums for March Delivery

The market is becoming more competitive throughout Europe due to exporters’ need for potatoes, and processors have begun providing premiums for March delivery.
“Rising potato prices have stifled export movement but there is keen interest from buyers in the Mediterranean and also from the East. World Potato Markets report that prices in Poland have risen 10% over the last two weeks,” according to a recent IFA potato report.
Both retail sales and domestic potato consumption are steady in Ireland, and the peeling market is expanding.
“The market remains strong for pre-pack quality stock. In terms of the upcoming season, the cost and availability of seed is challenging. Supplies all over Europe are tight, which has driven up the cost considerably,” the experts concluded.
