Danish ingredient manufacturer KMC has recently unveiled the Protafy 130 potato protein concentrate for the fortification of both vegan and non-vegan food products. The launch comes in response to the growing demand for plant-based proteins.

Protafy 130 allows food manufacturers to boost the nutritional quality of foods and snacks in a highly sustainable way, says the company.

According to KMC food manufacturers and product developers of plant-based formulations struggle with allergen labeling and risk of nutrient deficiencies due to the natural compositions of most plant proteins. However, potato protein stands out with a balanced and complete amino acid profile, which plays an important role in ensuring the nutritional quality of plant-based formulations.

The fact that potatoes are known to be one of the world’s most important food crops, facilitates communication towards the label-conscious consumer. Findings suggest that food manufacturers highlight the precise protein type in the ingredient list, and this is where potato protein, in particular, leads to favorable consumer perception.
