‘Less-Than-Perfect’ Tubers Will Be Packaged and Sold Under the ‘Spuds’ Product Line

SPUDS “less-than-perfect” potatoes, the newest offering from Side Delights, was just introduced. The new potato line, which comes in 4.5 kg bags, was developed with the consumer who prioritizes value and sustainability in mind.
Some flawed potatoes will now be packed and marketed under this new product line as part of the Fresh Solutions Network’s dedication to enhancing sustainable food management practices and lowering food waste. In addition to the advantages of sustainability, consumers will save money since “less-than-perfect” potatoes will be cheaper. In current inflationary times, this is an added benefit.
“SPUDS was created for environmentally conscious, food-waste-minded shoppers who understand that potatoes can still be nutritious and taste delicious even if they are cosmetically challenged. SPUDS potatoes are non-GMO and gluten-free like all our Side Delights branded fresh potatoes. However, these potatoes are not in perfect cosmetic condition. That does not mean that they aren’t good at eating potatoes. Peel them for a delicious mashed potato dish, or quarter and roast them. The taste is unaffected if the potato has bumps, blemishes, or is oddly shaped,” Kathleen Triou, president and CEO of Fresh Solutions Network said, cited by different media sources.
Nearly 54.43bn kg of food are wasted annually in the U.S. alone, including agricultural produce that is squandered. Producing food that is wasted depletes valuable resources like water, electricity, and farmland in addition to costing farmers money. Retailers, suppliers, and consumers are searching for solutions to the problem of food waste, such as using imperfect produce, which includes foods with cosmetic flaws or unique colors, shapes, or sizes.
