Potato Chips Fans Asked What They’ve Done to ‘Turn Something Ugly Into Something Beautiful’

In honor of Upcycling Month in June, Uglies Kettle Chips—which transforms ‘ugly potatoes’ into aesthetically pleasing kettle chips—is inviting its social media followers to tell their stories of how they’ve ‘turned something ugly into something beautiful’ to enter to win a year’s worth of the company’s upcycled chips.
Dieffenbach’s Potato Chips Inc.’s Uglies subsidiary uses defective potatoes—which would otherwise be food waste—to make tasty kettle-cooked potato chips as part of its commitment to eliminate hunger, reduce waste, and support farmers. Uglies is a component of the answer to lessen the 26% of produce that is thrown away in the U.S. for personal appearance. Additionally, 10% of Uglies’ revenues are donated to VivaKids, a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit committed to ending world hunger. June 24th is National Upcycling Day, and this year June will be used to honor the significance of upcycling.
“We are proud to be an Upcycled Certified brand with a mission-driven purpose at its core to reduce food waste while also helping farmers and fighting hunger. We are celebrating Upcycling Month in a fun way to reward people for their upcycling efforts to help draw attention to this important effort. We are excited to see all the creative ways people are upcycling in their own lives,” Bob Zender, Director of Marketing, said.
Fans on social media can visit Uglies’ Instagram profile, @ugliessnacks, and leave a comment on the contest announcement post between June 1 and June 21 to enter. On June 24, National Upcycling Day, the winners will be revealed.
The Upcycled Food Association, which certifies Uglies Kettle Chips as Upcycled, states that since 2021, sales of upcycled food have increased by more than 500% in terms of overall dollar sales. Uglies Kettle Chips, which have grown by over 600% in the last three years and almost 20 times faster than the Shelf Stable Potato Chips Sub-Category since 2022, are leading this trend.
