Kazakhstan Opens $2.4m Potato Storage Facility in Kostanay Region

A modern potato storage facility has been inaugurated in the village of Bayshuak, Beimbet Mailin district, Kostanay region. The ₸1.2 billion (US$2.4 million) project, with a capacity of 6,000 tonnes, is among the largest of its kind in northern Kazakhstan.
The concrete-built warehouse is fully automated, handling sorting, packaging and climate-controlled storage. Ventilation and packaging systems were supplied from Germany and the Netherlands, a choice intended to ensure long-term preservation and reduce post-harvest losses.
Kostanay is a key potato-producing region in the country. The Beimbet Mailin district harvested 8,000 tonnes from 300 hectares last year, supplying both domestic markets and neighbouring Uzbekistan. With the new facility in place, local growers expect to expand planting areas, supported by Bayshuak’s location at a major transport hub that allows rapid delivery within the region and across Kazakhstan.
Farmers emphasised that the design makes the facility distinctive in Kazakhstan, where few such storages exist. “It was designed to maximize storage capacity on a compact site while minimizing product loss,” said agronomist Oleg Skaskevich.
Regional authorities underlined the strategic value of the investment. Demand for vegetable storage infrastructure is growing, and two additional facilities are planned for the district in the coming years. These projects are intended to reinforce supply stability and open further export opportunities for Kazakhstan’s potato sector.
