NEPG Estimates a Record Harvest

Although the entire crop is not yet finalized, the North-Western European Potato Growers (NEPG) estimates that the harvest will total around 28.9 million tones (gross weight), which more than the estimation made in September.
The NEPG indicates that there is still between 10% and 15% of the harvest must be carried out in the Netherlands and Great Britain (but also in Northern Germany), due to particularly wet conditions.
The production in NEPG is expected to be 17.7% higher than last year, 15.6% higher than the 5-year average, and slightly higher than the record 2014 harvest.
Despite this, NEPG expects more severe deficiencies during the campaign. Quality is generally good, although there are problems regarding the storage, diseases and dry matter. In the Benelux, dry matter is often insufficient, with for example 30% of lots of Bintje and 10% of lots of Fontane in Belgium that do not reach the dry materials requested by industry.
