Van Iperen To Distribute Restrain Accumulator In The Netherlands

Restrain, a specialist in residue-free technologies for potato production and storage, has appointed Van Iperen BV as the distributor of its Accumulator treatment in the Netherlands, extending a long-standing commercial relationship between the two companies.
The agreement covers Restrain Accumulator, an in-store, pre-planting treatment designed for use in seed potatoes. The product is positioned as a tool to manage physiological development prior to planting by breaking apical dominance while simultaneously suppressing sprout growth during application. Once the treatment period ends, sprouting resumes across multiple eyes, resulting in a higher number of stems and tubers per plant.
According to Restrain, Accumulator is applied more than 120 days before planting and is intended to deliver uniform physiological development across a wide range of potato varieties. The treatment typically produces short, controlled sprouts of 2–4 mm during storage, supporting consistent emergence once seed is planted.
The partnership brings together Restrain’s storage-based technology with Van Iperen’s established advisory and distribution network in the Netherlands. Van Iperen is active across crop nutrition, crop protection and sustainable cultivation solutions, and works closely with growers through a nationwide team of technical advisors.
For Dutch seed potato growers, the collaboration is framed around efficiency and yield optimisation. Restrain indicates that commercial trials of Accumulator have demonstrated higher marketable yields, improved seed efficiency and greater crop uniformity. Based on these trials, average returns of approximately EUR 2,500 per hectare (USD 2,700) have been reported, although actual results depend on variety, storage conditions and agronomic practice.
The appointment also reflects ongoing changes in the European potato sector, where residue management, storage performance and planting consistency have become increasingly important. With tighter regulatory scrutiny and rising production costs, technologies that can be integrated into existing storage infrastructure without leaving chemical residues are attracting attention from both seed and ware potato growers.
Accumulator is positioned as a “safe and simple” in-store solution that does not require changes to planting equipment or field operations. By acting during storage rather than in the field, the treatment allows growers to influence crop structure and tuber set before planting decisions are finalised.
Restrain said the agreement with Van Iperen builds on a history of cooperation between the two companies and is intended to accelerate adoption of Accumulator in the Dutch market. Van Iperen’s role will include technical support, grower advice and integration of the treatment into existing planting programmes.
With the distribution agreement now in place, Accumulator will be available to Dutch growers for the 2025 planting season and beyond. Both companies expect the combination of local technical support and established grower relationships to support wider uptake, particularly in seed potato production systems where uniformity and stem number are critical performance indicators.
