Spain to Start Planting Princesse Amandine Potatoes in 2020

The Princesse Amandine – a potato variety from France – has started being marketed in Spain, ahead of the planting in the next campaign of more than 55 hectares in Spain and Portugal in the regions of Andalusia, Castile-Leon, Murcia and Silveira Torres Vedras.
The potato variety will be available in the country under the Princesa Amandine Ibérica brand and is the result of the alliance of four companies in the sector: Ibérica de Patatas (Madrid), Zamorano (Barcelona), Udapa (Basque Country) and the Portuguese Campotec. The objective of the project is the marketing and promotion of the potato, which is very popular in France.
According to the president of Princesa Amandine Ibérica, Alfonso Sáenz de Cámara Barrón (Udapa), who was cited by the report, the aim is for the variety to be recognized by consumers and distributors in the country within five years.
For the French association Princesse Amandine, this development of the brand and expansion of the production in Spain and Portugal is a test for a model (a national association and local production) that could be expanded to new countries, such as Germany and Scandinavia.
The report notes that the new potato variety is already available in Spain, on the shelves of Alcampo and Lidl, and it will soon also arrive to other distribution chains. To celebrate the launch, the first customers that will try the potatoes, will get their money back.
