Ukrainian Potato Growers Encouraged to Grow a Domestic Selection of Potato Varieties

Through a recent post on its Facebook page, the Ukrainian Association of Potato Producers (UAPP) announced the activity resumption of two domestic potato producers – PJSC “NGO Chernihivelitkaltopryoplya” and Polissya Research Station “Polissya Ds Them O.M. Zasuhina IK NAAN” named after “Zasukhin Institute of Potato NAAN”, with the support of the communication platform “Mad Potato” (Скажений картопляр).
According to the announcement, specialists from both companies will hold several masterclasses for the Ukrainian spud growers on the “Mad Potato” platform (Скажений картопляр) and provide useful advice on technologies for growing varieties of Ukrainian selection.
“War is not only a time of loss but also a time to unite the efforts of all people. […] We encourage everyone to try to grow varieties of potatoes of domestic selection. In the catalogs […] there are many delicious, high-yielding varieties. Seeds of high reproductions will be given to you for FREE. But we ask you to pay for its delivery to you by ‘Nova Poshta Global’. Seed delivery volume – up to 30 kg. The cost of delivery, depending on the distance, can reach USD13.6 per shipment. So when you contact us, please take this fact into account, as well as respect our staff, who will stand in line for five hours (in the regions there is a lot of excitement among those wishing to use the services of ‘Nova Poshta Global’).
“We ask you to transfer a bag of potatoes from the grown crop to the needs of the Armed Forces or your SRW. We will be grateful for the videos and photos that you will send during the season to ‘Скажений картопляр’. […] Friends, we call for unification. All peace and an end to the war as soon as possible. Together to victory!”, the UAPP representatives wrote on their Facebook page.
Polissya Research Station was established in 1914 by the efforts of agronomist-researcher Alexei Nikolaevich Zasuhin to solve the issues of increasing the fertility of sandy soils, organizing breeding, and seed work with winter rye, lupine, potatoes.
At the present day, scientists and specialists of the station are working on the creation of new high-yielding and sustainable varieties of potatoes, developing and implementing productive and efficient technological processes for the production of elite tuber seeds, and environmentally safe and resource-saving technologies for potato production.
The Public Joint Stock Company Research and Production Association “Chernihivelitkartoplya” – based on the Chkalov state farm of the Chernihiv district, the Chernihiv region by the resolution of the Council of Ministers of Ukraine in 1963 the Chernihiv potato research station was created. Later, in 1985, by the order of the Council of Ministers of Ukraine, it was transformed into a research and production association “Chernihivelitkartoplya”, subordinated to the Institute of Potato UAAS.
In connection with the registration of a closed joint-stock company in December 1999, the association operates independently as a single research and production complex, which includes a research unit – a research station, and a production unit – research and production farm.
