Branston Scales Up Mash and Protein Capacity with New Hires

Branston, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of potatoes and prepared potato products, has launched a major recruitment drive at its flagship site in Lincolnshire, seeking more than 65 new team members to support its expanding operations. The hiring campaign follows continued growth across several divisions, including its newly commissioned mash production facility and a recent entry into protein extraction.
The dedicated mash plant, opened in 2023, has experienced strong customer demand since commissioning, prompting an increase in shift capacity. At the same time, Branston’s well-established prepared foods division and its venture into extracting plant-based protein from potatoes are also scaling up, requiring additional skilled personnel across production and engineering roles.
“We’re undergoing a period of incredibly positive and exciting growth and we’re eager to expand our team to support the demand from our customers,” said Simon Telfer, HR Director at Branston. “We’re recruiting into a growing division, which means there is so much capacity for individuals to carve their own career paths and progress within the company.”
The company is advertising positions across a range of levels, including engineers, shift-leading engineers, section managers, production and maintenance managers, line operatives, and forklift truck (FLT) drivers. The roles support both day-to-day operations and the company’s longer-term capacity building.
“We’ve worked hard to ensure the team can access robust training and development programmes, from apprentice level through to senior managers, and that’s the same for anyone looking to join as part of our current recruitment drive,” added Telfer. “Likewise, we place a lot of importance on our culture and looking after the team. We appreciate that work life balance is key, especially where some roles are required to do shifts, and aim to be accommodating where we can.”
Branston, which handles over 350,000 tonnes of potatoes annually for retail, foodservice, and manufacturing markets, has invested significantly in automation and value-added product development in recent years. The business has also emphasised talent development internally, with a growing number of entry-level staff progressing to leadership roles through in-house training schemes.
“We are keen to welcome new talent to the Branston team and embrace their expertise to drive our future plans as well as aiding current growth,” Telfer said. “We’re equally passionate about championing the next generation and have successfully supported many people from entry level roles through to leadership positions with the right training and development.”
