European Potato Crops Relatively Stable After Recent Rainfalls
Thunderstorms have supplied much-needed moisture to potato crops across Europe. Rainfall totals on the mainland have been sporadic, ranging from 5 to 15mm, with thunderstorms in the Netherlands dumping up to 40mm.
The potato crops in the U.K. are looking marginally better after receiving some rain, but irrigation continues in many areas.
Potato consumption and demand in Ireland remain at normal levels for this time of year. Following a sudden hailstorm over the weekend, there are indications of substantial crop damage in Enniscorthy and adjacent regions.
“Some crops are described as ‘shredded’ following the […] incident. Nationally crops remain very much behind schedule, following late plantings and subsequent drought. There are continued reports that yields of Queens are average,” the latest IFA report reveals.
