Grimme Updates Two-Row Self-Propelled Varitron Harvester

Grimme has released the latest generation of its two-row, self-propelled Varitron harvesters, featuring a completely redesigned cab and a suite of enhancements to optimize both user experience and crop flow performance during vegetable and potato harvesting.
The centrepiece of the redesign is the operator environment. The new cab integrates Grimme’s CCI 1200 terminal and the SmartView video monitoring system as standard. The control platform is supported by ergonomic improvements including a leather operator seat, two-zone automatic climate control, and a new LED lighting system for efficient nighttime operation. A large windscreen and narrow cab pillars offer improved visibility of the intake, while 13 external cameras feed into the 12-inch SmartView display, which supports live slow motion and zoom functionality.
The Varitron’s revised design also accommodates optional systems for yield recording and mapping, providing full integration with precision agriculture workflows. Despite the updates, familiar Grimme features such as ‘TerraDisc’ and ‘TerraControl’ depth management systems remain unchanged. Mechanical coupling points have been standardised for quick component changeovers—mirroring the configuration used on Grimme’s four-row models.
In terms of crop handling, a new spiral roller design has been introduced for the roller separator. Grimme has modified the material composition and nearly doubled the spiral height to increase impurity throughput and reduce roller wear. The separator system includes flexible configurations such as the Double-MultiSep or roller separator paired with MultiSep. This setup also allows for the use of Grimme’s TwinSep, a bypass system designed to improve crop protection during separation.
The new Varitron is engineered for adaptability across various crops and soil conditions. A mechanical intake adaptation system allows quick reconfiguration of intake components. Operators can also reverse the main webs, fine haulm elevator, and ring elevator directly from the cab to clear blockages quickly and safely.
For crews working in-field, an optional weather roof—available with or without side panels—offers protection in all weather conditions. The white tarp is designed to support visual detection of green tubers, aiding quality control.
With its blend of operator-focused features and performance upgrades, the updated Varitron aims to deliver increased harvesting efficiency, comfort, and crop quality under demanding field conditions.
