Potato Pathogen Eradicated in US Greenhouses

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Ralstonia solanacearum race 3 biovar 2 has been eliminated from greenhouses in the U.S.
The pathogen causes brown rot (bacterial wilt) of the potato plant. The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and state departments of agriculture eliminated the pathogen. The USDA announced the success two months after the pathogen was detected in a Michigan greenhouse, according to a news release.
The response involved more than 650 facilities in 44 states, according to the release. The pathogen also affects tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. This was the first time the pathogen had been detected in U.S. greenhouses since 2004.
