Potato Plantings Continue to Be Disrupted Across Europe

This season has also seen a significant disruption in planting across Europe. Planting is practically complete in France and Germany, but heavy weather has slowed progress in Belgium, where total plantings were estimated at 40% last week.
“In The Netherlands, planting progress was 75 to 80% at the end of last week but there has since been 20 to 80mm of rain in central areas,” the latest IFA report reveals.
Potato retail and home consumption in Ireland remain high as the bank holiday weekend looms.
“About plantings, many growers in the northeast of the country [Ireland] are nearing completion, however, progress is much slower in the south and southeast of the country. Heavy thunderstorms have halted progress in some areas once again,” the IFA potato experts concluded.
