Europatat recently announced a new member. It is the French company – Comptoir du Plant – which specializes in the production, trade and supply of seed potatoes.

The company was founded in 2000 and is based in Méricourt, Pas the Calaise. Every year, Comptoir du Plant grows around 650 hectares of seed potatoes in the North of France. To limit the production risks, the firm works with 65 producers (including basic seed ones) that are distributed in the main seed potato production areas. In total, Comptoir du Plant markets more than 20,000 tons of seed potatoes to producers, traders, and processors from Europe and beyond.

Non only that, but the company also develops potato varieties in partnership with other French and European breeders. Each year, more than 200 varieties are tested in several trial fields that are distributed in production areas in France.

Comptoir du Plant is the latest company to join Europatat. Back in December 2018, European trade association welcomed another French company called Champ’Pom. At present, this firm produces and trades more than 30 potato varieties, selling a total of 40,000 tons per campaign.
