Multivac’s Packaging Solutions for Fruit and Vegetables at Fruit Logistica 2023

At Fruit Logistica, which takes place from February 8–10, 2023, Multivac is emphasizing its sustainable packaging innovations in particular.
Multivac will display sustainable packaging options for a variety of fresh items over more than 250 square meters of exhibition area in Hall 2.1, Stand A-10.
Visitors are anticipated to show a great deal of interest in the company’s other packaging solutions as well as the Multivac PaperBoard line, which has a high level of material efficiency and recyclability while still delivering longer shelf life for the food goods.
The T 305 tray sealer and a whole line, with the high-output TX 710 tray sealer serving as its centerpiece, will be on display during the trade show. For businesses who need to pack smaller batches as well as as an entry-level model into fully automatic tray packing, the tiny T 305 is the best option.
On the other hand, the TX 710 is made for large batches and is incredibly outstanding in terms of its cutting-edge machine technology, extensive sensor system, sophisticated controls, and high level of process reliability. When it comes to packing quality and continuously high-cycle production, this tray sealer is the industry standard. The biological degradability of the cellulose-based tray adds to the packaging solution’s sustainability.
Attaching Labels With Variable Information
Additionally included within the line is a Baseline labeler from the L 301 series. This efficient labeling method attaches labels with variable information, such as best-before date, to the trays’ tops. Many operations, including loading a print plan or establishing the labeler’s parameters, can be automated thanks to the labeler controls’ integration. This information can be easily kept in the TX Traysealer’s product recipes. As a result, the tray sealers control terminal allows for efficient and reliable control of the L 301.
The adaptable L 310 Top Wrap conveyor belt labeler demonstrates how Multivac is addressing the emerging trend for packs made of paper and cardboard that can be recycled independently and is on display at Fruit Logistica as a stand-alone model for specific items like tomatoes and berries. Both the old plastic trays and the cardboard sleeves, which are recyclable but use a lot of material, are increasingly being replaced by these packs.
“If fruit or vegetables are not packed in a modified atmosphere or airtight in a vacuum pack, the trays can be sealed closed easily and branded attractively using a label. The version of the labeler to be shown in Berlin enables two types of packs to be produced: Top Wrap, where the label is applied to the top and both sides, and Top Close, where the label is applied to just the top of the pack,” according to a recent company press release.
The self-adhesive labels’ high degree of flexibility in terms of material thickness and shape opens up a wide range of options for product presentation. To avoid interaction with the product, it is feasible, for instance, to have cut-outs in the label and adhesive-free zones. The automatic and very effective labeling, the quick batch changes, and last but not least the appealing packaging and branding concept, which is always warmly accepted by customers, are some of the most significant advantages of this conveyor belt labeler.
Playing Safe
Multivac is also displaying its I 410 visual inspection system, a high-output, integrated solution for quality control with its transport conveyor, for fair attendees who like to play it safe when it comes to highly automated operations.
“The packs are either transferred from an upstream transport unit or fed in manually. As an alternative, the packs can be ejected using an electric motor, so that no compressed air is required. This system is an intelligent option, when packing leaf salads for example, and checking the seal seam for contamination. The I 410 can be installed for label and print inspection at the end of a tray sealer and labeling system,” the press document reveals.
The R 245 will be demonstrated by Multivac to demonstrate how fresh produce is packed in thermoformed packets. The R 245 is a thermoforming packaging machine that is flexibly programmable, provides a wide selection of equipment options, and enables the production of complex pack forms at high output.
On February 9 from 13.45 to 14.30, Christian Zimmermann, Project Manager, Market Intelligence & Applications, will give a presentation on the Tech Stage to conclude Multivac’s participation at the trade show: “How can sustainable packaging help to cut down on food waste?” He will be joined by Ronald Helmel, Business Development Manager of Multivac Marking & Inspection.
