Sustainability Talks at Potato Days 2022

Anyone with a love for potatoes is welcome to visit HZPC on November 9, 10, and 11. The organizers and visitors will have a chance to talk about the current and upcoming difficulties with food security and sustainability during Potato Days 2022. They will also talk about how the potato industry as a whole can work together to make a significant impact.
“We are therefore proud to introduce you to our most promising varieties and innovations,” the organizers wrote in a recent press release.
Sustainable practices are attempting to take precedence. How can HZPC and its partners support healthy eating and a healthy environment? On Wednesday, November 9, hosts Annemarie van Campen and Gerard Backx (CEO of HZPC) will ask their motivational guests to offer their perspectives on this topic during the online opening of Potato Days 2022.
“We need to work together across the sector to find solutions for the future. After all, in the fight against hunger and climate change, there is no time to waste. This is the common theme of the diverse and engaging program for the opening. There is also a keynote by Katrien Descheemaeker, Professor of Plant Production Systems at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), and a panel discussion with Andries Middag (CEO Vavi), Elisabete Coutinho (packer at CALCOB in Portugal) and Robert Graveland (director HZPC Research) on the topic of drought and how we can face it together,” according to the media document.
When it comes to increasing the sustainability of potato and seed potato agriculture, HZPC aims to take the lead. The new potato cultivars created by HZPC will receive a lot of attention during Potato Days 2022. The marketing manager at HZPC Michiel ten Duis will introduce the superpowers of the sustainable varieties Quintera and Camelia during the opening performance. Visitors are invited to stop by the HZPC headquarters in Joure on November 10 and 11 so they can personally experience how the company hopes to use sustainable varieties to help create a more sustainable future.
