2023: Idaho, Oregon, and Washington Sold USD2.63bn Worth of Potatoes
Idaho’s potato crop was sold for USD1.26bn in 2023, an 11% decrease from 2022. Potato prices in Idaho decreased by USD2.87 from the previous year to an average of USD9.63 per cwt (1 cwt is 50.8 kg) during the marketing year.
In Oregon, the 2023 potato crop was sold for USD284m, up 13% from the previous year. The potato price was USD11.60 per cwt, up USD1.30 from last year.
Washington’s 2023 potato crop sold was valued at USD1.09bn, up 23% from 2022. The marketing year average price for potatoes was USD11.20 per cwt, up USD1.32 from the previous year.
“In Idaho, potato production for 2023 totaled 143m cwt, up 19% from 2022. In Oregon, production was 26.7m cwt, up 1% from 2022. Production in Washington was 104m cwt, up 9% from 2022. The combined production for the 3 states was 62% of U.S. potato production in 2023,” according to a recent USDA report.
Idaho processors used 84.1 million cwt of potatoes this season. In Oregon, processors used 38.5m cwt of potatoes this season. Malheur County used 9.87m cwt, whereas the remaining counties used 28.6m cwt. In Washington, processors used 64.6m cwt of potatoes this season. Processors in the 8 States used 232m cwt of potatoes this season, up 6% from the previous year.
