Agrico Projects 34% Increase in Seed Potato Prices for 2024 Crop Year

Agrico, the Dutch potato cooperative, has announced a projected average price of €580 per metric tonne for seed potatoes from the 2024 crop year, marking a 34% increase compared to the previous season. This price applies to autumn delivery of loose, ex-farm seed potatoes sized 28mm and above. Prices for other sizes and classes are expected to be determined in June.
The cooperative attributes the price hike to strong global demand for seed potatoes, reflecting the crop’s growing significance in food security and agricultural development. Agrico’s pricing strategy aims to ensure fair returns for growers while maintaining supply chain stability.
This announcement follows Agrico’s recent expansion efforts, including the acquisition of seed potato activities from The Potato Company (TPC) in February 2024, aimed at increasing acreage and meeting rising demand.
Further details on pricing for different sizes and classes will be provided in June, as Agrico continues to monitor market dynamics and adjust accordingly.
