European Potato Exporters Are Seeking to Retain Their Recent Expansion Into World Markets
In Northern Europe, the lack of supply of seed to the processing sector is extremely concerning at a time when exporters are seeking to retain their recent expansion into world markets.
“With the 7% reduction in seed area (France, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, and The Netherlands) this year and crop losses due to quality downgrading and poor yield, a much higher percentage of the crop is likely to be cut,” a recent IFA potato experts report reveals.
In Ireland, the home consumption and retail sales remain unchanged. The availability of pre-pack quality stock is tightening and prices reported are reflective of this.
“The viability of overwintered crop is questionable, some growers have up to 50 acres remaining to be harvested due to poor weather conditions,” the experts concluded.
