European Potato Growers Are Looking for Higher Prices

Following the Christmas season, the potato export market revives throughout Europe, with Spain showing strong demand for Agria. Demand doesn’t pick up speed following the holiday. Although prices are the same, more growers seem to be seeking movement.
Priority one for factories is the clearing contracts, but free buys are also needed for quick movement and to guarantee supply for the upcoming months.
“Growers now have more confidence in the market and are looking for higher prices,” the IFA potato experts wrote in their latest analysis.
Since the holiday season, home consumption and retail potato demand in Ireland have been a little slow, but they should start to increase.
“There should not be downward pressure on markets as yields are average and stocks should not be in excess following last year’s shortages. The availability of seed potato for the upcoming season is a concern,” the IFA potato experts concluded.
