European Potato Prices Reach Plateau

In Europe, the ongoing upward trend in potato prices in physical markets, which had been rising steadily since the start of the year, has now leveled off.
“Contracts are being cleared as soon as they become ready but free buy demand is relatively light. Export volumes are reduced as buyers absorb the recent price increases but there is still light trade to the Caribbean and Africa from Holland,” the most recent IFA potato report reveals.
In Ireland, the potato retail demand and consumption have remained stable. Demand and supply are expected to stay balanced for the rest of the season, particularly since stock levels were very low at the end of the previous season.
“There was some pressure on farm-gate prices over the past two weeks, however, looking at the supply situation prices should stabilize”, the IFA potato experts concluded.
