Increased Spud Prices in Armenia

In February, Armenia faced a potato price increase of 71,4% compared to the same period in 2021 due to the growing demand, as people prefer to consume more potatoes at the expense of other products.
Last year, the gross potato harvest amounted to 364,600 tons, which is 12,2% less than in 2018.
In 2021, compared to 2018, potato plantings decreased by 9%, Potato System wrote.
The sharp increase in exports also had a significant impact on the price of potatoes. In 2021, 48,300 tons of potatoes were exported from Armenia (mainly to Russia), which is about 4,5 times more than in 2020.
The average monthly consumption of potatoes per capita in Armenia is 3,2 kg.
The Armenian society is sensitive to the rise in prices for this product.
