Ireland: Home Consumption and Retail Potato Demand are Both Stable

Home consumption and retail potato demand are both stable and growing in Ireland, particularly in light of the recent cooler temperatures. The restaurant service industry saw an improvement in trade over the bank holiday weekend.
“It is estimated that plantings of early Queens are over 70% complete in Wexford. As plantings continue, growers are reminded to grow for their markets,” the IFA potato experts mentioned.
Regarding the Cyprus potato crop, exports have declined by nearly 50% over the last eight years, and this year, recent frost damage will restrict volumes.
“Plantings are reported to be progressing well in the U.K. Growth has been slow lately due to cold weather,” the IFA representatives concluded.
