Irish Potato Demand to Steadily Grow as St. Patrick’s Nears

The demand for potatoes at retail in Ireland is still steady, and as St. Patrick’s Day draws near, business in the food service industry should increase.
“Ground conditions are favorable, and some earlies have been planted in Wexford. There some inquires from the continent about export from Ireland,” the IFA potato experts recently wrote.
Inspection of “two related consignments” of ware potatoes imported from Poland in the United Kingdom revealed ring rot. The same exporter is the source of both of these.
“In Cyprus, further updates on the frost damage reported, suggest that serious damage is confined to a small area and regrowth is taking place. Daytime temps are now up to 21 degrees Celsius,” the IFA potato experts concluded.
