Some of the most recent reports show that the Eastern European market for chips is expected to record a slight growth, as processors are striving to meet consumer demand for bolder flavors and more exotic textures. At the same time, both processing companies and growers are increasing their sustainability efforts and ramping up production of bio options, in order to differentiate themselves in this crowded, mature and saturated market.
On the other hand, equipment manufacturers continue to innovate in some of the key areas that cover the entire processing chain. For instance, a Buhler Aeroglide representative explains in an expert view that the drying step is key to achieving a high-quality product, as it is of vital importance to keep processing on a uniform and optimized regime, maintaining precise parameters needed to achieve a target moisture.
Similarly, in the field of digital sorting, to optimize performance, the system must be designed specifically for the products being sorted and properly sized for the application. It must also be well maintained by the user to prevent diminishing performance. Adding to this, packaging is moving in a more sustainable direction too, in the case of both raw and processed varieties. Be it the implementation of bio-degradable materials or reducing waste throughout the packaging process, it is all influencing the roadmap towards a cleaner, greener future.
All these topics, together with exclusive interviews, expert opinions and market analysis articles are available now in your complimentary March-April Issue of Potato Processing International magazine, which you can read by clicking here.
