Elea PEF Chip Day 2025 Highlights Next-Generation Potato Chip Technology

On 9 October 2025, Elea Technology GmbH hosted industry professionals, partners, and chip producers from around the world for the Elea PEF Chip Day 2025, held at the company’s headquarters in Quakenbrück. The event offered a comprehensive look at the latest advancements in Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) processing and its transformative role in potato chip manufacturing.
The day opened with a welcome address from Managing Director Stefan Toepfl, followed by presentations, live demonstrations, and customer case studies that illustrated the tangible impact of PEF on industrial chip production.
For the potato industry, Elea’s PEF technology is increasingly recognised for its measurable efficiency gains. The process can reduce cutting force by up to 50%, extend knife durability, and help achieve lower fat uptake while minimising starch loss during slicing and washing. Together, these improvements enhance yield, texture, and product consistency while reducing resource use and production waste.
A key focus of the event was the launch of the PEF Advantage B Micro, a new compact, all-in-one system designed for smaller processing lines with a capacity of up to 1.7 tonnes per hour. The system extends the benefits of PEF to smaller producers seeking energy-efficient and cost-effective solutions.
Attendees also heard from Mathias Henningsen of ScanStore A/S, who presented Elea’s collaboration with Norwegian brand Sørlandschips, and Tomislav Lukačević of Kanaan, who shared insights from the company’s installation of the PEF Advantage B1 system, describing how it has taken their production “to the next level.”
A highlight of the live demonstrations was PiCon, Elea’s new process control innovation that combines artificial intelligence with acoustic signal analysis to assess PEF treatment efficiency in real time and automatically fine-tune processing parameters.
The day concluded with networking sessions and a guided tour of the DIL e.V. (German Institute of Food Technology) facilities, followed by a closing dinner themed “Chip & Sip: A Scotch Whisky Tasting” led by whisky expert David Allardice.
With Elea PEF Chip Day 2025, the company reaffirmed its leadership in PEF processing technology and its ongoing commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in the potato processing sector.
