Aviko raised money for the national Charity Coeliac UK

Potato processor Aviko raised GBP 600 for the national Charity Coeliac UK, during Coeliac Awareness Week, May 11-17.
During the week-long awareness campaign, the company donated GBP 2 for every follow and retweet on its Twitter account@AvikoUK using the hashtag #AvikoGFHeroes.
Those that engaged with the campaign were also entered into a giveaway for the chance to get their hands on a personalised chefs jacket and one of five goody bags containing Aviko and Coeliac UK promotional items.
The activity formed part of our ‘Aviko’s Gluten-Free Heroes’ campaign, highlighting the importance of gluten-free side dishes which are suitable for people with coeliac disease on menus. Kicking off with the results of independent research and resulting infographic, which delved into the demand for gluten-free options out-of-home, the campaign included free point-of-sale materials for operators and a range of gluten-free recipes developed alongside respected chef and representative of the Craft Guild of Chefs, Daniel Ayton.
Mohammed Essa, General Manager UK and Ireland, Aviko says: “Coeliac UK provides vital support for those suffering from coeliac disease so we’re proud to have raised such a significant amount of money to help their cause – thank you to everyone that got involved.
We believe in the importance of providing gluten-free sides – particularly as 73% of people don’t think the out-of-home sector does enough to cater for gluten intolerances* – so, alongside the fundraising for Coeliac UK, we’re working hard to support caterers with their coeliac friendly menus.”
Sarah Sleet, Chief Executive of Coeliac UK said: “Eating out with confidence is really important for people with coeliac disease, as a strict gluten-free diet is the only treatment for people diagnosied with the autoimmune condition. We have worked alongside the catering industry for many years providing training and accreditation for the safe provision of gluten-free food. Aviko’s activity on Twitter during the Awareness Week helped spread the word about coeliac disease and the ‘is it coeliac disease’ campaign to the catering industry and we appreciate their very generous donation to the Charity.”
Formed in 1968, Coeliac UK is the oldest and largest coeliac disease charity in the world. It provides expert information to help sufferers manage their health and diet, campaigns for better access to diagnosis and care, as well as better access to food in- and out-of-home, and researches the nature of the disease and potential cures.
Aviko’s most popular products are produced in a dedicated gluten-free factory – something not all potato product suppliers can guarantee.
