Simplot Wins Energy Efficiency Award

Simplot’s Pocatello’s Don Plant – a fertilizer production facility – recently received the 2019 Idaho Award for Leadership in Energy Efficiency, writes Local News8.
“Improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption are the foundation of a secure future for Idaho and our country. I applaud the Idaho businesses and organizations receiving these awards for their leadership in demonstrating smart, cost-effective and responsible energy practices,” commented state governor Brad Little.
It’s not the first time Simplot’s Don Plant was recognized with this award. The company has also received the distinction in the industrial category between 2014-2018.
The accolade recognizes organizations which lead the state in energy efficiency projects and initiatives that improve the production process of goods or support the process of managing local communities.
According to the report, Simplot’s Don Plant has implemented two projects that were submitted for consideration for the award. These projects included lighting upgrades to LEDs and optimizing the plant’s air system with new compressors that allows 2 of the 4 compressors to be taken offline. Total savings for the 2 projects were reportedly at 3,087,644 kilowatt hours per year. Simplot estimates that it will save approximately USD161,051 per year due to these projects.
In related news, Lamb Weston’s Twin Falls Plant was also the recipient of a similar award in the industry category.
