A Good Potato Export Movement Throughout Europe

Fresh potato markets in Europe are said to remain stagnant, but there is good export activity. In the year to October 2022, EU-to-UK goods sales increased by 13.2% to 902,151 tons.
Early potato planting has started in the UK; although there have been a few ground touches of frost, conditions are “surprisingly good” and the first Lady Rosetta variety for chipping is “imminently” going to be planted. Despite the weak spud trade, sellers are optimistic about increased prices. Although buyers desire high-quality samples, they are unwilling to pay for them. The prices of premium potato lines that have been washed and labeled have sporadically increased slightly.
In Ireland, the retail potato sales remain unchanged this week, the food service sector should see some increased business with the bank holiday weekend.
“Demand for peeling stock remains positive with price holding strong. Early plantings are underway with ground conditions improving. Good progress should be made over the weekend if conditions allow,” the latest IFA report reveals.
