Agrico’s Standout Cultivars for the 2022-2023 Season

Agrico chooses a few types each year that deserve additional attention. These “spotlight varieties” are fresh, cutting-edge selections that are currently dominating the market.
Based on the early delivery, the company’s experts can already see that their clients value these variations greatly. Agrico’s standout cultivars this year are Palace and Levante.
Levante, Delicious, and Natural
For the retail industry and more established areas, Levante is a promising variety. Levante is a cultivar with gorgeous, clear skin that cooks relatively hard and is great for boiling, mashing, and baking. Levante, therefore, satisfies the demands of the contemporary consumer. This type can be grown conventionally or organically. The species belongs to the Next Generation family. Because they protect against the principal potato disease (Phytophthora infestans) while requiring fewer crop protection agents to be utilized, Next Generation cultivars aid in sustainable farming.
“Levante is an environmentally friendly potato with a particularly nice presentation. A combination of high net yield and excellent size distribution for retail in Europe. Suitable for various methods of preparation,” Peter Oldenkamp, product manager Agrico said.
Palace, a Very Versatile Variety
Palace is a processing variety with a late ripening and high yield. The cultivar thrives in warm, dry climates like those found in Central and Southern Europe and North Africa because it grows easily in a variety of soil types and climates. Palace has a fantastic skin that provides more business prospects than just processing. Palace is also a particularly intriguing variety for the current market conditions because of its low nitrogen consumption.
“Agrico goes beyond just supplying high-quality seed and ware potatoes. We are involved with our customers and provide comprehensive advice in several areas. We have innovative varieties, make use of independent certification, have extensive quality assurance, actively respond to knowledge sharing, are committed to fast and reliable delivery, and have a worldwide network,” Wieger van der Werff, commercial manager Agrico concluded.
