Europe: ‘Potato Plantings Are Now Well Advanced’

Most of the European countries have finished planting potatoes, with the exception of The Netherlands, which saw intense rains once more last week.
“Physical prices are reported to be stronger again as buyers look for cover for the end of the season. Plantings also continue in parts of the U.K.,” the most recent IFA potato report also reveals.
In Ireland, potato sowing continues with a ‘stop-start’ technique as heavy weather impedes work.
“Retail demand and home consumption remain buoyant. It will be an extremely late year and old season stocks are coming under increased pressure. Buyers continue to seek out remaining stock to cover the season,” the IFA potato experts concluded.
