Practical and Needs-based Solutions for Packing Small and Medium-sized Batches

Multivac will exhibit at interpack 2023 practical and needs-based solutions for packing small and medium-sized batches, as well as complete processing and packaging lines for the food industry.
To achieve maximum flexibility and cost-effectiveness, these small-batch solutions allow hand-craft companies and smaller processors to enter the world of automatic packaging. The displays will include compact thermoforming packaging machines, traysealers, and chamber machines of various sizes.
“This year we are very consciously putting our smaller and more compact models center stage as well. They are very versatile in their use, as well as being cost-effective, efficient, very sustainable, and a resilient link in virtually every production process,” Tobias Richter, Director and CSO of the Multivac Group, mentioned.
Line Solution for Thermoforming Packaging
The R 085 e-concept thermoforming packaging machine, intended for packing small batches effectively, is at the heart of the line for Foodservice applications. This tried-and-true entry-level model can process both sustainable and standard flexible and rigid films. Another advantage is that this compact all-arounder has a small footprint and works solely on electricity, without the need for compressed air or cooling water.
“This means that it can be used very flexibly within the production area. In Düsseldorf the R 085 e-concept will be shown in conjunction with a Handtmann dosing system, which is used to dose food directly into the thermoformed packs,” the company experts wrote in a recent press release.
Stand-alone Machine for Thermoforming Packaging
The R 105 MF thermoforming packaging machine is an entry-level device that can pack a variety of food items, such as steaks or salmon cuts, in attractive MultiFresh vacuum skin packs. This allows for optimum shelf life and perfect product presentation even in small batches.
The product’s quality, freshness, color, and texture are displayed naturally, and the content is held securely within the pack. Multivac also offers special packaging materials that are optimized for the MultiFreshTM procedure.
Semi-automatic and Fully Automatic Tray Packing in the Smallest Space
The T 255 traysealer is a space-saving, free-standing unit that allows many various types of tray packing to be produced in small and medium-sized batches on the same machine. Visitors to the Multivac stand will be able to see frequent demonstrations of the die change, how versatile this efficient traysealer is, and how it provides maximum machine availability. The machine can be converted from producing MultiFresh packs to MAP packs in a very brief period and with only a few hand movements.
The T 305 is Multivac’s smallest fully automatic traysealer that can be entirely integrated into lines. In terms of output speed, it is far ahead of its class, and it can support formats ranging from one to four tracks. This allrounder can run trays up to a depth of 110 mm and can be ideally matched to the individual production environment thanks to its range of available loading areas. PaperBoard applications and MultiFresh containers with 50 mm product protrusion have recently become available.
Multivac Marking & Inspection offers an optional DP 115 direct web printer for marking the boxes. The thermal transfer method is used to print the film, and the printer is located at the packaging machine’s film infeed.
Packaging in Film Pouches
Multivac’s B 425 compact chamber belt machine demonstrates a model with a very high output, especially when packing smaller products such as ham, cheese, poultry, and fish. The machine’s major characteristics are its durability, ease of operation, and the highest level of hygiene. The new B 425 will also be appreciated by cost-conscious businesses, who are looking for a higher product throughput when packing small products, since the 1,300 mm long sealing bar makes it possible to load many products.
Some other advantage of its compact design is the machine’s small room requirement, which means it can even be used in small production environments. Filling the film pouches and loading the machine are frequently bottlenecks in the packaging process on chamber belt machines. The loading of the chamber belt machine is done semi-automatically using the new Multivac Pouch Loader (MPL) and Multivac Pouch Rack (MPR), resulting in significant efficiency and cost savings. In Düsseldorf, the chamber belt machine will be combined with a SE 320 shrink unit, which makes shrink packs in particularly reliable and gentle on the product manner due to precisely controlled heat exposure.
“Multivac tabletop machines are an ideal solution for the quick and easy packaging of smaller products. They can be used very flexibly due to their compact dimensions. They provide the highest output and also offer outstanding pack quality, even when operated in commercial non-stop mode. With its C 200 tabletop chamber machine, Multivac is showing at Interpack 2023 a proven model, which is also suitable for larger products, such as cheese portions, ham, or fresh meat, thanks to its chamber size of 465 x 355 x 150/220 mm,” according to the release.
Flexible Flowpacker for Food Products
The Multivac W 500 is a universal flow packing solution that provides a high degree of flexibility for packing a broad range of food products and promotes sustainable films and paper-based materials. The sturdy machine, which adheres to Multivac’s Hygienic Design, is distinguished by its high efficiency and precision, as well as its user-friendliness, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and high production.
To obtain maximum output and ideal process control, precise servo drive technology is used. With or without a tray, products with a maximum breadth of 200 mm and a maximum height of 120 mm can be packed with ease. The additional features include an integrated gas analysis system for MAP packing with a modified atmosphere, an independent speed setting of the rollers for crease-free longitudinal sealing, and extremely reliable cross-sealing made possible by precise, recipe-based control of sealing temperature and pressure.
“When it comes to labeling or marking the packs on a flowpacker, Multivac offers a wide choice of solutions. These range from inline labelers to direct web printers and even combined systems. All these solutions are characterized by their extremely compact construction and optimum hygiene features. They are perfectly matched to the Multivac flowpacker in terms of their control technology and mechanical functions. A DP 207 printing solution will be shown at Interpack 2023 on the W 500,” the company’s representatives concluded.
