European Physical Prices in the Potato Processing Sector Continue to Improve

Physical prices in the potato processing industry continue to improve across Europe, while the fresh potato market remains “flat” albeit with prices moving higher.
According to World Potato Markets, recent price increases in Poland have reached up to 25%. Other sources anticipate that the planted area could decrease by as much as 15 to 20% the next year.
After a delayed start to the program, early plantings in the UK are reportedly ahead of schedule given that circumstances are “ideal” in some locations. The first lifting of the indoor crop is anticipated at the end of the month.
In Ireland, the planting of early potatoes has progressed well over the past week with soils drying out well allowing for good planting conditions.
“Retail trade remains buoyant and similar to pre-pandemic levels. Reports indicate that the price of peeling material remains above EUR230/tonne. Maincrop growers are currently weighing up their options for this year’s plantings, and costs of production remain top of the agenda,” the latest IFA report concludes.
