Royal Avebe Announces a Strategic Partnership With ChainCraft
Royal Avebe, a world leader in potato-based protein and starch innovations, and ChainCraft, a pioneer in the manufacture of circular chemicals, recently made a significant step toward a strategic partnership by signing a Heads of Agreement.
The goal of this collaboration is to use ChainCraft’s cutting-edge fermentation technology to transform Avebe’s leftover potato juice into high-value circular fatty acids and fertilizers. Ter Apelkanaal, Groningen, is a first-of-its-kind factory located on or close to Avebe’s property.
Avebe is constantly looking for new and creative ways to reduce waste, its carbon footprint, and the value it adds to its production processes as part of its dedication to sustainability and circular economy principles. By using state-of-the-art fermentation techniques to transform leftover streams into useful goods, the relationship with ChainCraft precisely matches these goals, decreasing environmental impact and promoting sustainable agriculture.
“We are excited to partner with ChainCraft and take this next step in our sustainability journey. Leveraging the fermentation technology of ChainCraft, potato juice, a byproduct of our production, will be transformed into circular products such as fatty acids and fertilizers. So for Avebe, this collaboration ensures more circularity and also saves energy. It contributes to the further creation of efficient production processes. Which ultimately has a positive effect on our members’ earning capacity. For the northern part of the Netherlands, this collaboration means a more sustainable agricultural sector and region. And it also contributes to more employment opportunities in the north,” David Fousert, CEO at Avebe, mentioned.
By minimizing deforestation, ChainCraft’s innovative technology enables the utilization of organic waste streams, such as potato juice as a substitute for fossil feedstocks and palm oil as a raw material, and positively contributes to reducing CO2 emissions and preserving biodiversity. This helps producers of lubricants, animal feed, specialty chemicals, and flavors and fragrances to achieve their climate targets.
“At ChainCraft, our mission is to drive the transition towards a circular bioeconomy, and this collaboration with Avebe is a significant milestone. Our fermentation technology is perfectly suited for transforming residual streams into high-quality raw materials, and working with a forward-thinking partner like Avebe allows us to scale up this process to a first-of-kind factory and demonstrate the full potential of our innovative solution. This marks the first of several commercial milestones we are going to meet in the coming period, in which we will start the fundraising process for the financing of our first full-scale factory and further specify the details of the long-term collaboration,” Niels van Stralen, Founder & Chief Growth Officer at ChainCraft, added.
In addition to demonstrating the dedication of both businesses to sustainability, this relationship sets a standard for how industry participants can work together to innovate solutions to environmental problems.
