European Potato Seeding: Progress is Delayed by Heavy Showers

The state of the soil is improving throughout Europe, but some regions are still just starting to plant potatoes, and severe rains have slowed down the process of sowing.
“Progress is most advanced in Germany and France where 25% of the processing crop is in the ground but planting has only just begun in Holland and Belgium,” the latest IFA report reveals.
In the U.K., planting progress has also been significantly delayed and growth rates have been very slow.
In Ireland, potato stocks continue to tighten significantly as merchants seek out remaining packing quality material, and prices are reflected accordingly.
“Good planting progress was made in the northeast of the country last week, however, the southeast remained very wet, and many are only getting going this week. Stocks will run very tight before any new season crops come onto the market,” according to the document.
