Record 2024 Potato Harvest For Takijistan: 1.13 m Tons

For the first ten months of 2024, Tajikistan produced a record 1.13m tons of potatoes, 20.6% more than the previous year.
As reported by Asia-Plus, the President of Tajikistan’s Agency for Statistics reports that Sughd province produces 640,000 tons of potatoes, which is 19.8% more than the previous year. In Republican-subordinated districts, potato production increased by 25.7% to 283,000 tons. At 248,000 tons, Khatlon province likewise showed a 19.4% increase.
According to the most recent data, Tajikistan is the fourth-largest producer of potatoes in Central Asia.
With an average of 111 kg of potatoes consumed per person, the nation ranks third in the area, behind Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. In the past, the Ministry of Agriculture said that each person needed 92 kilograms of potatoes annually.
In Tajikistan, one of the most significant agricultural subsectors is potato growing. The nation decided to produce more than a million tons of potatoes a year in 2023.
As planting areas have expanded, potato production has increased since 2018.
Different regions in Tajikistan cultivate potato varieties depending on climatic conditions. The most popular varieties are “Picasso,” “Red Scarlett,” “Gala,” and domestic varieties developed in collaboration with the International Potato Center.
