Tomra’s Latest Machines to Sort French Fries Live in Las Vegas

Tomra Food is preparing to make an appearance at Pack Expo 2019, which will be hosted between 23-25, 2019 in Las Vegas, U.S.
During the tradeshow, the company will have the Tomra 5B sorting French fries and green beans live. The machine can sort a variety of food products, from vegetables and potatoes to leafy products and features Tomra’s own smart surround view technology, which includes high-resolution cameras, and high-intensity LEDs, providing 360-degree inspection and SmartSort.
With worldwide demand for potato products continuing to grow, Tomra Food supports potato processors by offering enhanced sorting solutions which promise to remove more than 98% of all typical foreign objects found in product streams after washing and peeling.
The company will also have the 5A sorter on display during the event. Tomra says the machine is capable of enhancing food safety due to its advanced ability to remove foreign material and minimize the risk of food contamination.
Both sorters offer enhanced sanitation features that have been designed and developed in accordance with the latest hygiene standards and specification. The Tomra 5B, in particular, has a fast and efficient cleaning process that results in fewer unreachable areas and reduced waste material.
“Tomra is already responsible for peeling an estimated 85% of the world’s potatoes for French fries,” said Mark Host, regional sales director Americas at Tomra Food, who noted that the Tomra 5A sorter builds on the company’s decades-long partnership with the potato industry.
The new technology ensures the food safety of the whole potato along the entire processing line. Besides, it also dramatically reduces the risk of foreign objects demanding cutting equipment or otherwise contributing to a line stoppage.
