Potato Demand on a Retail Front is ‘Holding Up Extremely Well’

In Ireland, the potato demand on a retail front is holding up extremely well following a busy holiday period.
“The cold snap we are experiencing is likely boosting consumption and sales. Prices are holding steady accordingly. The food service trade is slightly lackluster although still busy, as to be expected following the festivities. There are further reports of quality issues in store which will reduce saleable for growers,” the latest IFA report reveals.
The IFA experts added that the situation is similar in the U.K. and across Europe as demand and sales begin to steady following the Christmas break. Export demand from the Canaries remains positive and values are holding firm as buyers try to find suitable quality samples.
